Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.
He defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
